The art and photo contests are now open and accepting submissions for the 2020 Yakutat Tern Festival. The Festival will be held May 28 – May 31, 2020, and will offer a variety of activities, seminars, and field trips for the community. The festival is excited to announce Ray Troll from Ketchikan as the guest artist, and he will be teaching art workshops for both kids and adults.
The Festival Planning Committee is seeking artwork for the cover of this year’s program to serve as the logo of the 10th Annual Tern Festival. The winner’s design will also be featured on the front of this year’s shirt. In addition, the winning artist will receive a cash prize of $100. The guidelines require clean, simple, and bold lines. The art must be clear and recognizable when reduced to 3”, and contain no more than 3 colors. Black and white submissions are acceptable. The deadline for the contest is Friday, March 13th, 2020. Submissions may be emailed to Teresa Swanson at [email protected] or hand delivered to the Forest Service Office.
In addition, there is a photo contest as part of the festival. There is no limit on the number of entries per individual, although photographs should be recent, original, and preferably of Yakutat birds. Hard copies of photographs may be dropped off at the Forest Service Office or emailed to [email protected]. The submission deadline for the photo contest is Friday, May 22nd at 5:00 PM.
Show off your talents and showcase Yakutat’s unique culture and land by participating in these art contests. Submissions of all ages are encouraged, and questions may be directed to Teresa Swanson or Susan Oehlers at 784-3359.
